Does anyone remember the old 'swamp' before it became an ornamental fish pond? I think the work was carried out in the early sixties. I found this old picture of how it use to be and I have many happy memories of walking to Cedars Park with a fishing net and a jam jar and coming home with newts and tadpoles in it.
Hi Alec, I think the reason we called it a swamp was because it fitted better with the scary stories we were told about it. Just recently, I learned that there was a grain of truth behind these stories. I am going to start a new thread based on an old newspaper article. As far as the actual pond is concerned, the council turned what I remember as the 'swamp' into a concrete bottomed pond sometime in the 60s when they got rid of all the newts and frogs and put goldfish in their place. I am trying to get permission to return the wildlife that once was there back again.
